Elemental Planes

Elemental Planes

The primal homes of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth, first designed as the building blocks of creation.

Overview

In the beginning, when Beral created the Primal Titans, he also designed the elemental planes to be the building blocks of creation. These planes were the homes of the most fundamental elements in the universe, and the Titans and Elementals who were born from them were the purest expressions of their respective elements.

  • The Plane of Fire blazed with flames and molten lava, with towering volcanoes and fiery creatures such as salamanders and efreeti. Here, the very air was hot and dry, and the ground was scorched and blackened. It was a dangerous place, but also a place of great passion and energy.
  • The Plane of Water was a vast and unknown ocean, with unfathomable depths and mysteries that few have ever dared to explore. It was inhabited by creatures such as Nereids, tritons, and water elementals, who were able to move and breathe underwater as easily as they could on land. Here, the water was always in motion, with currents and tides that shifted constantly.
  • The Plane of Air was a place of constant movement, with swirling gusts of wind that carried everything with them. Djinn and sylphs made their homes here, able to navigate the ever-changing winds and storms with ease. The very air was alive with energy, and the ground was often unstable, with sudden gusts and eddies that could throw an unwary traveler off balance.
  • The Plane of Earth was a place of mountains and caverns, with great underground networks and deep, dark chasms. It was home to creatures such as earth elementals and xorns, who were as strong and resilient as the very rocks and stones they were made of. Here, the ground was solid and unyielding, and the very air was thick with the scent of earth and stone.

The elemental planes interacted with each other in complex ways, with some planes opposing each other and others in harmony. The Plane of Fire and the Plane of Water were natural enemies, with their opposing elements creating a volatile mix that could result in dangerous and explosive reactions. Similarly, the Plane of Earth and the Plane of Air were in a constant state of tension, with the solid earth being eroded by the winds and the unstable air being shaped and molded by the solid earth.

When two elemental planes met, a place of transition was created between them known as the Ethereal Plane. This plane was a strange and mysterious place, where the laws of physics and magic were often different from the material world. Travelers who ventured into the Ethereal Plane often found themselves in a surreal and disorienting landscape, where objects and creatures could appear and disappear without warning.

Campaign Use

  • Connect elemental magic, titans, djinn, dao, and regional myths to these planes.
  • Let transition zones create unstable terrain, unusual creatures, and impossible weather.
